Finally here it is, the long awaited re-release of 'Nowadays Style' produced by Melody Muzik's commander-in-chief Dawit Menelik Tafari. Long since out-of-print one thing is still certain; this recording has been on many people's radar and in our opinion one of the finest discomix 12"s ever released. Back in the early days (and for a very short stint) Dawit recorded under the moniker 'Top Cat' which caused some head-scratching as there was a deejay also recording under the same name. Just to set the record straight, Dawit was the first and original 'Top Cat' from school days. Not long after 'Nowadays Style' was released in 88' Dawit updated his name and the next chapter of his musical career was cemented. Out of respect we decided to credit and release this project under Dawit Menelik Tafari's preferred name and give praises were due. Moving on, another pearl that we discovered while unearthing the Master Tapes is Hughie Izachaar's unreleased beauty '𝐂𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐌𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐰'. Vinyl collectors may recognise the riddim as 'One Short' off the B-Side of the original 1988 press of 'Nowadays Style'. It was a real treasure finding this unreleased vocal and to match it perfectly with the instrumental for the very first time. There’s no question about it, these tunes still stand up to the 31 years since they were first recorded. A culmination of imagination, artistic desire, melodic strength and structure.
